TOTALLY OUTRAGED ABOUT THE NEW BUDGET PASSED BY CONGRESS

I am totally outraged and this has nothing to do with woodworking but our congress (let me rephrase that the congress that looks out for the ulta-rich and big business) just passed a budget that repeals some of the restrictions on banks the same banks that caused the economic  melt down and the same banks that have foreclosed on millions of Americans homes the same Americans that had too bale them out. We have lost our democracy because our congress only cares about getting re-elected and of course the large banks that they are beholding to.

16,000 PLANS FOR WOODWORKING PLANS ALL IN ONE PACKAGE

16,000 plans for woodworking projects put together by Ted McGrath of Ted's woodworking.  A review with the DIY woodworker in mind.
By: M. Fleury.

I have been doing woodworking for a number of years, the consummate DIYer my wife calls me.  I was on the Internet the other day looking for some different woodworking plans, when I came across a website that really caught my attention Ted's woodworking.com.  Following are what I think are the pros and cons.

Pros :
·                     16,000 plans, I did not look at everyone to be sure. But one of the most impressive things I found is that there were woodworking plans for beginners and every other ability level from a simple birdhouse to a complicated piece of furniture, and everything in between.  There is something here for every skill level.
·                     Being an engineer in a past life before I retired i tend to have a penchant for detail.  That's another reason I like Ted's woodworking.  I found his woodworking plans to be very detailed with a complete materials and dimensions lists for each project, detailed instruction from the start of your project until completion with an explanation with the woodworking tools required for the project.
·                     Another thing I found very helpful, once you become a member, there is a large library of how-to videos to help assist you when working with these plans.
·                All of these woodworking plans are easily downloadable to your computer and organized by category.  For example, chairs birdhouses sheds and more they're always right there on your computer at the end of your fingertips.  Anytime you want new project, just sign in.
·               One of the best things about teds woodworking plans is the full 60 day money back guarantee.  If you're not completely satisfied, send it back for a full refund.  But i don't think you will.
Cons
·               One of the few drawbacks is just the very size and number of woodworking plans   available to choose from.  You know the old saying, too little time to many plans

THE ABSOLUTE BEST TOOL EVER

Have you ever tried to cut the bottom of a door casing to slide in a piece of tile or wooden flooring without removing the casing. The Porter-Cable Oscillating Multi-Tool makes this not just possible, but quick and simple and extremely accurate.  Ever tried to remove grout from between tiles without breaking the tile this tool does it with ease.  Cut in electric boxes without damaging the drywall, and scraping paint and caulk is no longer a sure.  This is truly a wonderful tool.
The PLC120MTC is cordless and only weighs 2.2 pounds it is designed with an air ergonomic handle making this tool not only comfortable to use but extremely portable as well.  One great feature of this multi-tool that sets it apart from all other multi-tool's on the market is a system for changing the different accessories, it is a tool free system (no more Allen wrenches) you just have to press a lever to change an accessory, it takes less than five seconds to change from one accessory to another, simple and quick.
It comes with a high torque choose one 12 V motor that delivers between 7500-15,000 OPM for years a problem free operation.  The built-in LED light makes working in dark corners a breeze.
The Porter Cable Lithium Oscillating Multi-Tool comes with a number of accessories.  Included are two 12 V lithium batteries and charger , a great feature about the charger is that it delivers a complete charge in only 30 minutes, so you never run out of power.  It comes with two carrying cases is one for the multi-tool and batteries and one for all the accessories that come with this tool.
The accessories include a hook and loop sanding pad and 12 pieces of sandpaper six are for wood and six are for paint.  It has three 1 1/2" x 1 5/8" and one 3/8" x 1 5/8" plunge blades, some are for wood and some are for metal.  There are flexible as well as rigid scraper blades and a grout removal blade.  It also comes with a rasp for sharpening tools and removing rust.
This is most definitely one of the best tools that I own and one of the most use.  I highly recommend the PLC120MTC to both the DIYer and the professional.

THE BEST WOODWORKING IDEA IS TO WORK SAFELY:BANDSAW SAFETY RULES

Band-saw safety rules

Band-saws like all other equipment in our woodworking shops can be used safely if we follow all the proper procedures and safety rules. There are the basics of course always wear your safety glasses,no jewelery rings or chains that could be caught in the blade, and of course never use your band-saw under the influence of drugs or alcohol. Now to the specifics pertaining to band-saws.
Always make sure the band-saw is unplugged before making any adjustments.
*check the blade for cracks or splits and if any are found replace the blade
*make sure the blade is the proper width for the job you are doing
*check the thickness of the wood to be cut and set the upper blade guide 1/4" or less above the cutting material

Once all adjustments and checks are made you are ready to get started
* clear your workspace to avoid any unexpected slips or falls. It's important to keep well-balanced when using this machine
* check your material for any cracks, knots such as nails or staples that could damage or break the blade
* take the time to plan your work so there is a maximum foreword feed and a minimum of backing out. And when backing out is necessary turn the band-saw off and let come to a complete stop otherwise you could pull the blade off of the wheels
*cut flat stock when ever possible if cutting round stock use approved holding devices
* hold wood on the band-saw table not pop off the table and feed material into the blade at a moderate but steady rate
* keep fingers out of the path of the blade
* always get help with longer pieces of material that are hard to handle
* when the band-saw is in operation. Always listened for anything unusual, such as, a clicking sound which could indicate a crack blade
* keep table clear of scraps, but never remove scraps before blade stops, even still use push sticks or brush whenever possible
*it's always best to stand on the right side of the band-saw whenever possible because eventually a blade will break when you are using it a safer position. When this happens immediately step away from the saw and shut off the power
* when work is complete, shut off the band-saw and wait until the blade comes to a complete stop
IF YOU FOLLOW THESE SIMPLE RULES RULES YOUR WORK ON THE BAND-SAW WILL BE NOT ONLY SAFE BUT SATISFYING.
KEEP IN MIND ITS ALWAYS BEST TO GET THE BEST BAND-SAW YOU CAN AFFORD BECAUSE IN THE LONG RUN IT IS TO YOUR BENEFIT .TO SEE A GREAT VARIETY I SUGGEST YOU VISIT ROCKLER.COM

WOODWORKING PROJECTS ARE MADE MUCH EARIER WITH THE RIGHT WOODWORKING PLANS

Have you finished any DIY woodworking projects before? If you've

done it you're aware that good results requires some really good

planning. If this is your first try it's important to make sure

that you've got a good set of woodworking plans before you start.

It doesn't have to be difficult to come up with the right plan for

the project you're considering. The project is much more likely to

come out as you want if you take the time to plan everything

carefully before you start using your woodworking tools.

One easy way to find a good plan for your woodworking project  is

to look online. The net is full of interesting woodworking plans

for DIY projects. You will be amazed at how easy it is to find one

that seems to be suitable for you. You will in most cases be able

to choose between hundreds, or even thousands of woodworking plans

and most of them are really good and easy to follow.

When you've decided what plan you would like to use it's time to

take a closer look at it. You might need to search a little on the

net in order to learn more about woodworking before you're ready

to start. It's important that you have some knowledge on the topic

before you start building something yourself, it's more difficult

than you might think and it's easy to get hurt unless you're

careful.

The most important thing when you're into woodworking is

safety. You always need to be aware of the fact that you can get

hurt if you're not careful. This is important to keep in mind even

if you've completed many woodworking projects before. It's

actually easier for experienced constructors to get hurt since

they are usually more careless than beginners. So i suggest that

weather you are a beginner or a seasoned pro to check out the basic

safety tips at TheWoodWorkersShop.com

As you can see you need to do three things to start with. Find a

good woodworking plan, learn as much as you can about woodworking

and be as careful as you can when you start working with the

project.

SO NOW THERE'S NOTHING HOLDING YOU BACK  SO GO OUT AND GET STARTED.

CHOOSING A PROPER OUTDOOR STORAGE SHED PLAN

Our landscaping is completed for the season and it looks great, except for all
the garden tools and equipment that are laying around. Obviously there is a need
for a storage area. A STORAGE SHED would be the perfect answer. The question is
how do you go about this? No doubt you are going to need a storage shed plan.
First you will need to determine which type of plan you require. This you can
only be determined by doing your research as to what your requirements are
regarding the shed.
You know you want to store all of your garden items. You most likely know what
items you have now and what size storage area it would take. But consider any
future garden purchases you may make in the future. For example are you thinking
of purchasing a new riding lawn mower, or a snow blower? These are items you may
need to store and your new garden shed may become their home., but only if its
big enough.

Then where are you going to put the shed? This will partly depend on what area
you have available, plus what style you are thinking of going with. Lets say you
have two choices of location. One is tucked away in the back of the garden
almost out of site, and the other one is at the edge of the flower bed. The one
tucked away will be more difficult to get at. They both will accommodate the size
of the shed you have in mind. Here’s where your decision of style comes in. If
you use the tucked away area, your style can be pretty basic because its not
going to interfere with your landscaping. On the other hand if you choose the
more open space, you are going to want a fancier style that will complement your
garden. You will have to keep this in mind when you pick your shed plans.

You will need to have at least a rough budget in mind. When you go to get your
storage shed plans you may have the option of choosing your plans according to
what materials you want to use. Different materials have different price ranges.
For example if the basic plan falls well within your budget then perhaps a more
deluxe version will be an option for you.

Be practical when choosing your plan. You are probably going to be surprised as
to just how much you are going to have to choose from. If you aren't careful and
stick to your own plans you could get carried away quite easily. Most often the
plans will give you a picture of the finished projects. You’ll see several that
you really like. Some of them look like little cottages. Now look at them
realistically, they have to meet all the needs that you have identified. Pick
out two or three that you really like and see if they answer these questions.

1. Are they the size that you need?
2. Will it fit in with the area you have chosen?
3. If it requires a building permit will it meet the criteria?
4. Is it simple and easy to understand for the novice?
5. Does it give a complete list of materials, and will these materials be readily
available in your area?

If you have gotten all the right answers, then you

should take a few minutes and check out myshedplans.

BUILDING YOUR FIRST WOODWORKING PROJECT

How To Get Started Building Your First Woodwork Project

A lot of things were different when your grandparents were young. Woodworking was very popular back then and most men had the skills to build something with their own hands. Almost everyone had their own woodworking projects which they worked with whenever they had some time to spare.

Things look a lot different today. Few people can handle their own woodworking projects and most people have to call in a professional if they would like to have some nice wooden furniture for the home. Furniture made of wood is stylish and classic and loved by most people but it would definitely be a lot easier if everyone could create their own furniture.

Woodworking is easier today

It's actually quite easy to gain knowledge today and woodworking knowledge is not an exception. The net is a great source where you can learn a lot about woodworking and how to start with EASY WOODWORKING PLANS. You will have to practice what you read in order to become skillful obviously but that will be a lot of fun.

Buy what you need to start

In order to start woodworking you will need some tools. It's always best to buy as good of a too as possible since that will make it possible to get real accurate results. It all depends on how much money you can spare though and you should always stick to your budget since woodworking is supposed to be fun, not supposed to ruin you. So i recommend a visit to rockler.com

Internet is great since you will be able to buy all the tools you might need there. The prices are usually much lower than in the stores you will be able to find if you're out shopping on the street. Make a list of all the tools you will need for your woodworking project and order them from the best e-shop you can find. Remember to compare prices before you order anything since some web shops are a lot cheaper than other ones.

It can be difficult for a beginner to know exactly what tools you will need to start with but you will be able to find guidance if you read online articles. The first thing you should buy is a great saw. Actually you will need several saws since there are various types, needed for various moments. You will also need a good jig.

Go ahead and learn all you want and need about woodworking. You will soon be able to work on your own woodworking projects and you will soon discover how much fun it is.

A REVIEW OF MY BOAT PLANS

MyBoatPlans is a comprehensive collection of 518 boat plans, 40 videos and about 500 pages of boat building guides. I've just bought the entire package and this is my review on the product:

What Is MyBoatPlans?

The product offers step by step blueprints on over 518 boats and video lessons on boat building. The creator, Martin Reid offers a simple, efficient and user-friendly system to construct any type of boats in a simple way. MyBoatPlans shows the user how to build over 500 different types of boats ranging from simple canoes and kayaks to complex designs like a cabin cruiser.

The Pros:

Below are some of the points I was really impressed with.

- A Huge Range of Plans To Choose From

They provide you with detailed plans and diagrams, complete with color pictures and examples on many types of boats.  Sailboats, skiffs, canoes, kayaks, houseboats, paddle boats, yachts, catamarans, flat-bottom boats, dinghys and dories, to name a few.  There are multiple plans available for each kind of boat, so you have some variety to choose from.

- The video section is comprehensive

The 45+ videos on boat building leaves no stone unturned. It consists of the entire boat building process from conception to the final product. It is great for beginners who want an easy to follow video guide on boat construction. There are also videos on boat repair and boat design calculations which are great for professional builders

- Great bonuses included

The bonuses you get with this product are great.  You get FREE boat designing software, a book on boat construction tips and the boat-builders handbook which is huge in and of itself.

- Full Color Pictures

I appreciated the amount of full color pictures and diagrams that are included in the manuals. I’m a very visual person, so it is easier for me to follow a picture or diagram instead of reading paragraphs.

- Money Back Policy

The 60 day money back guarantee is always appreciated.  I like seeing a merchant who stands behind their product 100%.  It puts the consumer at ease, knowing that they aren’t going to lose a cent if they choose to not use the system.

The Cons:

- It takes a while to download

Due to the huge amount of content available, there is about 900 megabytes to download. This may take a while if you have a slow connection. However you can opt for the DVD edition in the members area so that solves the issue if you're on a slow network

- Less than 20 mega yacht designs

Conclusion:

My boat plans is a great collection anyway you look at it. It is suitable for beginners as well as seasoned builders alike. It offer great value for money considering the one-time price  you pay for such an extensive system.

SHED KITS VERSES BUILDING FROM SCRATCH

Using shed kits Instead Of Building a Shed From Scratch
If you are planning on building a storage shed, make sure you do some homework first. If you are a carpenter or experienced handyman you have the advantage over the novice, in a few ways. You will be able to determine what would be best for you, either using a shed kit or building from scratch. With your experience your have more options based on your knowledge.
You novice builders have the same options, but it’s a matter of what would be the best for you. It really would be worth your while to check out the wide range of selections that are available.  I know, you really wanted to build this from scratch, and maybe feel like you’re cheating if you use a kit. On the contrary, you are making a wise decision, and besides someone has to still put it together, plus you can customize it. It’s that overall finished look that a person takes pride in, not in how many pieces of wood they had to cut.
These prefab storage units give you many options and have lots of advantages. First of all, you can have a choice of materials such as wood, vinyl or metal. If you were to build the shed from scratch, you probably would only be able to use wood, if you didn’t have any knowledge or tools to work with vinyl or metal. With some shed kits because of the way they are constructed you don’t need to worry to much about insulating, because of the way they are constructed. So that eliminates your problem of having to work with insulations.
If you purchase one of the self locking units, then you don’t have to be concerned about installing rafters, which is great, because it also gives you more usable space on the inside. You never have to worry about warping provided you have put it together properly.
Remember I said that you could accessorize it? In other words add your own creativity to it. For example, you can plan where you want the windows to be. You could even choose to put in skylights which not only is practical ,it modernizes the décor as well. What you want to do, and with what accessories are available to you, depends on the style of shed you are choosing, plus the material. If you are accessorizing, it is usually an added expense.
You will be pleased with how simple it is to erect one of these sheds when you buy the package. There are so many advantages to it. For example.
-All the material comes with it, There’s no running around trying to find everything you need
-You are not restricted to style because of your limited building knowledge
-Your choice of material allows you to choose something that will blend in and enhance your home and property
-They are sturdy, durable and a real bonus is they are maintenance free
-If your needs grow, and you need more storage space then you can either add an addition to the existing one, or purchase another one the same.
-There are no hidden costs. Everything you need is in the package and paid for at the time of purchase., so you know what its going to cost you.
Although remember if you don’t buy one that comes with a base, you will incur extra costs with that, plus don’t forget about the accessories.

How To Build A Shed In 10 Steps - Outdoor Storage Shed

So you need a storage shed to keep your outdoor items properly protected. You have shopped around to see what’s available, but you just can’t find one that suits your needs. Well, that’s no problem. You can build one yourself ,even if you’re not a carpenter. All that is required is ,for you to follow some quick and easy step by step plans, and you will have it built in no time.

Step One
Is to determine where you want to build it. You need to have a designated area planned out before you begin. What space you have available will determine the maximum size you can build it.

Step two
Once you know your exact size it’s a good idea to rough sketch what you want. There are many home improvement stores that you can take your sketch to. They will draft up your storage shed  plans for you, according to the specs you provide them with. They will also supply you with a list of materials that you will require. So now you have your plans. In addition they will provide you with a guide on how to perform each step.

Step Three
Purchase the materials you will need as outlined in your plan. it’s a good idea to have everything at hand so you don’t have to keep running out for supplies once you start construction.

Step Four
Now you are ready to start. Level your ground and prepare to lay the foundation. You would have already decided whether you are going to have a wood plank floor or concrete slab type.

Step Five
Next comes the side walls. Put your materials aside that you are going to use for this. It is better to construct the walls on the ground then lift them into position once they are together. Just follow your guide for the how to instructions.

Step Six
Now its time to start the roof. You will need to build your trusses. So construct one and then use it as a template for the rest. Once again  follow your guide on how to build the trusses.

Step Seven
Your storage shed should now be taking on some shape. Its time to build the end walls. How you do this will depend on what you have chosen in your plans. Be sure to stay with your original plans.

Step Eight
Now you are getting down to the final steps. The trim is just as important as the rest of your structure. Its what gives it that finished look so don’t scrimp here.

Step Nine
Your last two steps are applying the shingles for the roof then treating the wood. The wood must have some type of protective coating on it to protect it from the elements and rotting. This can be varnish, stains or paints whatever is your preference.

Step Ten
You’re done! All that’s left is to sit back and admire your completed storage shed. If you hadn’t built it yourself you would think it was a professional store bought model

For the novice builder it is very important that you have everything in place before you start any project. Of course the best way to do this is to have a action plan. So you have decided, you want to build a shed using a set of plans. Then first we need to put your action plan into place, and start by listing a series of questions you will need answered before you even begin construction.
1.What do you really need the shed for?
To start with you may be thinking its going to be used to store just the garden equipment. Think hard about this. Is it going to end up being a family shed? In other words, are the kids going to want to store their sports equipment in there? Or is the wife going to find a new place for the Christmas decorations, in your shed? So make a hard and fast rule of what the shed will be used for.
2.What size do you want it to be?
Now you know exactly what it is going to be used for, that will give you the size that you are going to want. Don’t forget to plan for the future. If its restricted to garden outdoor items, you will most likely be adding to your collection over the next few years, so you don’t want to have to build a shed all over again.
3.Where are you going to put it?
You need to determine when is the best place for it. It has to be some place accessible, without walking through your flowerbeds. Probably tucked away so it doesn’t interfere with your landscaping. Again think of the future, you don’t want to have to move it.
Now is the area you have allotted for it and the size of the shed you want compatible? If not then there has to be a compromise, either in the space or the size.
4.Does in need to be insulated, waterproof, or open?
If you are in a four season climate then you need to decide what seasons you need the shed to be able to withstand the most.
5. Do you require a building permit?
Know what your local by-laws are for building a shed. It wouldn’t be nice to get your project finished ,and then have city officials come along and tell you to take it down. Normally you won’t need a building permit if you stay within a specific size, but if you have determined to go larger than what’s allowed, you will have to submit building plans for approval.
6.Now one of the most important questions, What is your budget for this project?
Everything you have decided up to now is dependant on your budget. Its kinds of difficult to set a budget when you haven’t determined the cost of materials yet. Its your budget that’s going to help you when it comes time to get your building shed plans.
7.Where should you get your plans for building a shed?
You have lots of answers now. The purpose, the size, the budget, and now to answer the final question. For this you will need to check out what resources are available to you. Your local home hardware and building center, home planners, and of course the internet.
