THE BEST WOODWORKING IDEA IS TO WORK SAFELY:BANDSAW SAFETY RULES

Band-saw safety rules

Band-saws like all other equipment in our woodworking shops can be used safely if we follow all the proper procedures and safety rules. There are the basics of course always wear your safety glasses,no jewelery rings or chains that could be caught in the blade, and of course never use your band-saw under the influence of drugs or alcohol. Now to the specifics pertaining to band-saws.
Always make sure the band-saw is unplugged before making any adjustments.
*check the blade for cracks or splits and if any are found replace the blade
*make sure the blade is the proper width for the job you are doing
*check the thickness of the wood to be cut and set the upper blade guide 1/4" or less above the cutting material

Once all adjustments and checks are made you are ready to get started
* clear your workspace to avoid any unexpected slips or falls. It's important to keep well-balanced when using this machine
* check your material for any cracks, knots such as nails or staples that could damage or break the blade
* take the time to plan your work so there is a maximum foreword feed and a minimum of backing out. And when backing out is necessary turn the band-saw off and let come to a complete stop otherwise you could pull the blade off of the wheels
*cut flat stock when ever possible if cutting round stock use approved holding devices
* hold wood on the band-saw table not pop off the table and feed material into the blade at a moderate but steady rate
* keep fingers out of the path of the blade
* always get help with longer pieces of material that are hard to handle
* when the band-saw is in operation. Always listened for anything unusual, such as, a clicking sound which could indicate a crack blade
* keep table clear of scraps, but never remove scraps before blade stops, even still use push sticks or brush whenever possible
*it's always best to stand on the right side of the band-saw whenever possible because eventually a blade will break when you are using it a safer position. When this happens immediately step away from the saw and shut off the power
* when work is complete, shut off the band-saw and wait until the blade comes to a complete stop
IF YOU FOLLOW THESE SIMPLE RULES RULES YOUR WORK ON THE BAND-SAW WILL BE NOT ONLY SAFE BUT SATISFYING.
